Subculture shadows blend terribly! The formula of these make it look like I don’t know how to apply eyeshadow. With continued use these shadows might completely seal up. Despite the hard pan, I’m still able to use these shadows, for now anyway. I’ve heard of other people complaining that the shadows seal on themselves so they become unusable. Wherever my finger touches the shadow, the shadow develops hard pan. It’s a pretty color and has a bit of a slick feel as if I can feel the pigments submerged in oil.īut the other two shimmers, Cube and Electric have very weird textures. I thought it would pack on the same impact as the matte shadows, but it’s not nearly as powdery. My favorites are the yellow shadows, but they’re not without their faults. But I’ve learned to work with the powderiness of the shadows to avoid getting it all over my face.

It’s ridiculous that just one tap kicks up such a huge amount of product. I barely tap my brush in to a shadow and all this powder comes loose from the pan.

But these are powdery to a ridiculous amount. I don’t mind powdery shadows, in fact I like them. Untamed is a deep blue with a touch of green.

New Wave is a matte sunny yellow orange.

Electric is a duochrome with an orange base and neon yellow shimmers.

Axis is a matte dark blue and easily the most powdery of the bunch.

It’s a cool shade, but develops hard pan.

Cube is a duochrome white that shifts neon pink.

There are 11 mattes and 3 shimmers for a total of 14 shadows. This ribbon allows the user to pop the brush out by just tugging on the ribbon, instead of digging around with your fingers. The bristles are surprisingly soft, probably softer than any other brush I own.Ī tiny detail I really appreciate about this ABH palette is that there is a tiny ribbon that sticks out from the brush well. There’s also a double-ended brush, one side is a shader brush used for packing on shadow and the other side is fluffy used for blending out the shadows. The inside of the palette has a black glossy finish and contains a mirror. The soft fuzzy outer packaging is a muted navy that has “Subculture” written in yellow-orange, along with the brand name stamped in a matte foiled shine. The palette itself matches the box, but with more subdued colors. I like the packaging of the box itself more than the palette’s design. The dark, rich blue box has the name “Subculture” stamped into it in block orange letters and Anastasia Beverly Hills is embossed in gold underneath.

I didn’t expect to buy this controversial palette (long after the drama died down), but I caved so here is my take on it.

As we inch into fall, I find myself drawn more and more to the colors of this palette. It actually looks… good! At least that was my experience with Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Subculture Palette. But after a few more encounters, strangely our perspective changes. This is the perfect fall palette with its dark jewel tones and rich yellows.Īt first glance, it looks weird- a bit unusual from all the neutrals and warm shadows we’re used to.
